Book Study - Bargello and Resist

We're doing a Book Study as a group on NGS, using Nancy Curry's book "Texture Effects for Rubber Stamping". This week we are doing the Bargello design, characterized by cutting a piece into long thin strips of cut paper and creating a wave or other geometric design. Nancy had two gorgeous examples in her book. She choose to blend the Bargello design with resist. So I decided to give that a try also. I choose a Large Birthday Greetings image and stamped it onto glossy card stock with VersaMark ink and heat set. I sponged on some dye ink from an Adirondack rainbow pad with Jumbo daubers.
I added some lavender Brilliance ink over parts of the design.

I over stamped the same Large Birthday Greetings image with silver Encore ink and embossed it with clear embossing powder.

I cut up the card stock into long thin strips with my paper cutter. The widths vary from 1/8" - 1/4". I was very careful to lay them down in the order I cut them, so they wouldn't get mixed up. I followed Nancy's instructions and cut a piece of card stock the width of my stamped card stock and about 2" shorter than the length. I used repositional tape on the surface of this smaller piece of card stock so I could "play" with the placement of the strips, being able to change them without tearing. I also laid down a large piece of purple card stock and a thin strip of silver paper wear I wanted them on to a green card. This way I could "see" how the design was taking shape, and not be "committed" to that design if I decided to make changes later. I was careful to line up the strips close together so nothing showed between the strips.

I was happy with the colors of card stock and the placement of the strips, but wanted more in the background. So I stamped the same Large Birthday Greetings image with purple Adirondack ink over the base card stock pieces after adhering them together. I also stamped a Happy Birthday image in the same rainbow Adirondack ink pad I started with, onto a small piece of glossy card stock.

I ran the cut strips on the small piece of card stock through a xyron create a sticker machine, and adhered it onto the card. Also layered a piece of silver paper under the Happy Birthday piece and adhered it to the card.
