Compendium of Curiosities 2 Challenge 4 Faded Layers

Yesterday, Linda posted the 4th challenge from Tim Holtz's book "Compendium of Curiosities 2", the Faded Layers technique on p.43. Following the directions in the book, I created this background:
I used the the large flourish mask.
I turned my background into an ATC. Added decorative butterfly stickers and cut out words from Tim's Chitchat Stickers.

Sudoku 2 Step 6 on Mary's Background

I also received Mary's background in the mail today for our progressive Sudoku ATC Swap. Mary did the background, Chrissy stamped on the column of tickets, Jan stamped on the popcorn packaging image, Maggi added the red ticket, and Kathy added the saying on white card stock.
 I added the vintage image.
Now to send it off for the next 2 participants to add their bits.

Sudoku 2 Step 5 on Chrissy's Background

Fun mail day. I received this Sudoku Swap ATC in the mail today. Chrissy made the backgrounds, Jan stamped on the circles and the wire fence, and Kathy added the butterfly image.
I stamped the saying in black India Ink.
Now to send it off to the next 3 participants.

Quilts for Comfort Quilters

This blue one was made with left over scraps. It's my favorite of the three.

Hope the recipients enjoy their quilts!

Twinkling H20s and Lumiere Paint

Playing with one of the techniques from Dion Dior's class "Mastering Twinks".
Painted a solid pansy stamp with Sunset Gold Lumiere paint and stamped onto watercolor paper. Painted the pansy center stamp with Indigo Lumiere paint, stamped in the center and let dry.

Used a mixture of blue and purple Twinkling H20s as a wash over the stamped image. Wipe the wash off the paint. The acrylic Lumiere paint acts as a resist.
Also used a toothbrush to pick up yellow Twinkling H20 and splattered over the card.
Used a thin black Sharpie marker to outline the stamped image.
Tried to take a close up to show off the shimmer of the Twinkling H20s. Doesn't show well in the photo.
I
Mounted watercolor paper on to black paper, then on to gold card stock and then on to a black dotted card.

I have a lot to learn with this technique still. But my Mom will enjoy this card. (Mother's Day is coming)

Playing with Twinkling H2Os

I'm taking the online course "Mastering Twinks" by Dion Dior. I love the looks of the Twinkling H20s and am thrilled to learn how to get more out of them. Here are some the experiments in my sketchbook:

Neutral Shadows ATC Updated

After trying different "N" techniques, I decided I wanted to use the Neutral Shadows one for the swap on ArtVentures group. Of course, once I had the backgrounds done, I realized I didn't have enough of the silver heart brads or the boxy heart charm. Oh, well, I was sure I'd find something just as good.
I used jewelry bits for the body over a Prima butterfly (I love the script and color of this butterfly) and used a heart shaped charm in the girl's hand. Another change was to stamp the saying both on the ATC background and on a piece of bamboo colored paper, then cut out the WISH & HEART bits and adhere them in the appropriate place. I also colored the edges of the background with a bamboo colored marker (Same ink as used to create the background) and mounted the ATCs on black card stock. I like this better than the original one I did. Hope the swap participants like it as well!
