Had so much fun making a card using the Unused bits technique, I decided to make an ATC to add to my technique notebook, so I'll have a record of it. This time, I'd adhered torn pink & red unused papers from previous techniques & projects. Used a thick coating of gold acrylic paint to the torn edges and ATC edges.
Added gold acrylic paint to edges of a vintage image. Used some square "pebbles" to cover some typeset letter stickers and added to ATC.Sunday, January 27, 2013
U is for Unused bits
U is for Unused bits. This is a fun way to use up left over papers you have made or bought. On my counter is a few of the papers I have from experimenting with background techniques and papers used to soak up excess inks and/or paints. I will often grab dictionary pages and music sheets to stamp off extra paint/ink, or wipe off a brush or brayer or whatever.......
For this card, I tore two pieces of paper that I had rolled over excess acrylic paints from my brayer. I adhered these to the card front, overlapping the edges.
For the heart, I cut a heart shape out of a used envelope and ran through a Xyron to cover in adhesive. Tore bits of papers I had made or colored with extra inks in other projects, began to overlap the papers over the heart shape.
Once the heart was covered, colored all the torn edges with purple acrylic paint.
Adhered the heart to the card front. Colored the edges of the card front with the same purple acrylic paint. Stamped a saying with deep purple StazOn ink on paper and adhered to card. Added some copper colored circles to the card & heart.
This card is for a Fav Technique Swap on Next Generation Stampers.

Gelli Plate and Embossing Folders
I haven't spent much time playing with my Gelli Plate, but I saw this video on YouTube on using Texture Fades (embossing folders) with the Gelli Plate. Watch the video!!!!
I brayered green acrylic paint on the Gelli Plate and pressed two embossing folders into the paint and ran the brayer over them.
I used a bit much paint. The paper on the left is the first paper I pressed onto the Gelli Plate and ran the brayer over it. The paper on the right is the second paper (often called the "ghost sheet").I also pressed the embossing folders onto white paper and brayered over them,
and got this image.
Cleaned the Gelli Plate, brayered on a combo of blue & purple acrylic paints, pressed on two embossing folders, brayered over the tops of the folders. The paper on the left is the first "printing" on the one I did on the left above. The paper on the right is the second "printing" I did on the one on the right above.
Also pressed the embossing folder on the extra sheet where I'd pressed the embossing folder before.
Decided to try this technique on a dictionary page. This time I used Golden acrylics which dried faster on the Gelli Plate, so I didn't get a "ghost sheet". This is the printing I got on the dictionary page with q azo nickel gold.
Brayered red on the Gelli Plate and place down these two embossing folders.
And here's how the dictionary page looks after printing the on the same dictionary page.I need more time to play with the Gelli Plate, there are lots of fun tutorials on the Gelli Arts Blog.

Page for Lynn's Round Robin Journal
This week, I received Lynn's Round Robin Journal in the mail from the Kindred Souls Art Group. Her theme is Vintage Paris White/Ivory.
Lynn provided thick cardboard pages she had painted white. For the front, I started with a French themed printed fabric (thanks Margaret!). I embossed an image of Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower with white embossing powder on a paper printed in french, sewed these on the main fabric and added some lace. Sewed on a vintage image that was printed on a transparency sheet (again Thank you Margaret) along with more lace. Made a large lace & paper flower with some sparkly beads. Colored in one of the printed images on the fabric with white Enamel Accents (it really wanted to soak into the fabric) Also added a metal number plate with silver brads, a large decorative silver brad and some small beads. Frayed the edges of the fabric and adhered it to the cardboard with red liner tape.
The backs are to be simply decorated with our "information". Adhered some decorative paper to the cardboard with matte gel medium, wrinkling up some of the paper. Added two strips of Paris theme tape. Roughly sanded the edges and colored with antique linen Distress Ink to give the page an aged look. Found a Paris looking "postcard" to add to the page, it is covered in clear glitter. Used a white gel pen to add my "info". I like how the frayed from the fabric on the front shows on the back, along with some of the lace.Quick Cards with Vaseline Resist
I made some more Vaseline Resist pieces and added them with ribbon and/or background papers to make quick cards:
This one used the Vaseline Resist technique on a parchment like paper and the painted over with a green Twinkling H2O wash, the shimmer doesn't show in the photo, and the tree that was stamped with the vaseline is faint, but I still like how it looks.

ATC based on Tim's January Tag of 2013
Used a die cut and grungepaper for the key and heart shapes. Colored with metallic Distress Stains.
Used sandpaper over the key shape and colored some parts with iced spruce Distress ink. Made markings on the heart shapes and colored some parts with vintage photo Distress ink.
The markings on the hearts didn't show up well, so I drew over them with a black sharpie and pounded them with the texture hammer.
To finish the atc, added film strip ribbon with vintage images behind them. Stamped a saying with black Archival ink on another piece of manilla folder, roughed up the edges with a distressing tool and colored with walnut stain Distress Ink. Added gear bits to the grungepaper hearts. Added the hearts and key to the atc. I like how this turned out.Monday, January 14, 2013
Altered Surface ATC
This month's theme on the 9ATC group is "Altered Surface". I adhered piece of a music sheet over card stock. Used metallic copper embossing paste over a geometric stencil to "alter" my surface. I like how you can still tell it's a music sheet.
To create a butterfly embellishement. Placed Fantasy Fibers between two pieces of parchment paper.Ironed with a medium hot iron to fuse the fibers together.
Used die cut, to cut out butterfly shape and embossed image using a matching embossing folder.
Adhered center of butterfly to the atc, colored a pen nib with two colors of purple alcohol inks. Added some purple "pearls" and rhinestone.

journal pages
In one of my local stamp clubs, we are passing around journals. This year we are to write a story or poem, or for those like me who think writing is an accomplishment for very competent authors, we can stamp in quotes or sayings, whew!!!!
For some reason, the blank page is giving me creative block. So for these two journals, I started with background papers from a preprinted stack.
For Sandy's journal: I loved the negative frames on these pages, so filled them with stamped sayings and added a couple of extra ones. Adhered some angel ink jet image transfers I'd done earlier. The one on the left is over a dictionary page and the one on the rich is done over a preprinted background page. Also added some purchased images on clear sheets and some purple "pearls".
For Joy's journal: These pages were very decorative, I stamped another clock, the numbers, and some flourishes to tie the two pages together. Then stamped in the word "TIME" and various sayings. The image on the right is a deli wrap transfer I did in October. Also added a chipboard clock with some flourishes as "hands" and added a black rhinestone brad to the center. The butterflies are preprinted images I purchased. I stamped the word "moments" on the larger one on on the left.Hope they like their pages!

Page for my journal
The back side has an angel image done with the tap transfer technique. Also stamped a saying by Victor Hugo with black India Ink. This page is inspired by seeing Les Miz recently.
On the front, adhered torn music sheet paper, netting and lace with matte gel medium. I hope it all stays on.
Stamped the saying on card stock, colored a bit with Distress makers and cut into strips before adding to the page. Cut out an angel statue and layered on a butterfly image and added to lower corner. Made a lacy flower and added a chipped enamel flower to the center. Also added some "pearls" to the page.On the back, colored the edges with brown chalk ink. Added some torn music paper, a "pearl" and a silver heart charm.
Round Robin Journal Covers
I signed up for a Round Robin Journal Swap on Kindred Souls Art Group. We pick our own theme, size (between 6x6 - 10x10 or so). I decided on a theme of Inspirational Quotes Illustrated in a Shabby Chic style. I decided to make my journal covers out of fabric and lace and bits of stuff I have laying around. The main part is white satin over batting over cardboard. I printed out vintage photos and stamped on some words with silver StazOn metallic ink. Sewed on lots of lace
The pages inside the journal are 6x6 grungeboard pieces bound together with large rings. To hide the rings on the outside, I tied on lots of lovely fibers. For the front & back outside covers sewed on a layer of fine mesh fabric with micro beads in it. To the front, also added lots of various laces. Added a large metal butterfly piece with some light green beads sewn on, a door charm tied on with fibers and sewed a few beads near the bottom.
I love that the door charm opens up! Added some background paper, a couple of butterfly images and some small rhinestones. On the inside covers, added some small ribbon loops for the rings to fit on, they are hidden under lace. For the front inside cover, added some Prima flowers, a key and lock charm, a vintage button and lots of little silver floral bits and colorful beads.
For the back inside cover, added buttons and a fragment charm I'd made earlier.
The outside back cover had a large lace doily in the center, with a dragonfly bead and vintage button in the center, some Prisma flowers, some ribbons with printed words, a extra bits of lace sewn own with small copper beads.
This was time consuming, but lots of fun. Love all the layers and that it is tactile!
Excited to see the pages the members create to add to my journal!!!

Birthday Card for Tim - A Compendium of Curiosities Challenge
I can't believe this is the final Challenge from Tim Holtz's book "Compendium of Curiosities 2" on Linda's blog. This week is to make Tim a birthday card using our favorite technique from the Compendium series, any technique from either book. My all time favorite technique from Tim is the Wrinkle Free Distress technique from the first A Compendium of Curiosities book on pg. 33.
I made this background on a cut out piece of a Manila folder using the Wrinkle Free Distress technique and colored the edges with faded jeans Distress inks. Then stamped various phrases with black Archival ink.
I cut out a strip of blue paper from Tim's paper stack and stamped the numbers with faded jeans Distress ink. Made a paper rosette (book 2 pg. 63) from some of Tim's paper and colored the edges with faded jeans Distress ink. Added a clock face to the rosette with some game piece spinners. Added a birthday greeting to the inside.I think Tim will like it. I also stamped an envelope with related images.
Wishing Tim a wonderful birthday along with thanks for all the creative inspiration he provides.
