Verse pages

I sprayed the final set of pages for my Favorite Bible Verses Booklet with yellow, orange & red sprays. Most were made with dye inks, but also had some red & yellow pigment sprays, and a bit of gold perfect pearls in the mix. Here is one of the pages:
Used red Brilliance ink to add hearts and flourishes to the page.
Over stamped some of the heart images onto a vintage black & white image and adhered to the page. Used black pen to write out the verse.
On one of the blue pages, stamped a bird images and some small flourishes with both light and dark blue Brilliance inks.
Cut out a vintage image and adhered. Wrote out the verse by hand (I forgot the reference, Zephaniah 3:17, went back and wrote it on the bottom of the image).
Used a variety of blue & green Brilliance and Fabrico inks to stamp on vine flourishes, going for a cascading look, over one of the green pages I sprayed earlier.
Stamped the word BLESSING several times over the background with the light blue Brilliance ink. Added a vintage image and a verse printed on clear sticker sheet.

Queen Sized Quilt

I got brave and made a queen sized quilt in black & whites with just a pop of bright colors. Rented time on a long arm machine to do the quilting.

Book Study: Pointillism Technique

Continuing with the Book Study project for NGS using Nancy Curry's book "Textured Effects for Rubber Stamping". This week we are looking at the the section "Monet's Seascape" where Nancy demonstrates a Pointillism technique. Nancy using watercolor crayons on glossy card stock for a fabulous effect.
I don't have watercolor crayons, but do have watercolor pencils. I tried this technique on both watercolor paper (always on the left) and glossy card stock (always on the right). Thickly scribbled on blue in a zigzag pattern.
Used a water brush in a pouncing motion to liquefy the color and attempt to create the look of pointillism.
Scribbled on two shades of green, and repeated steps above.
Continued until the entire surface was done the same way.
Added some more colors and pounced the water brush over the surface to blend the colors.
Decided to go for a bit of glitz. Used the water brush to add some blue Twinkling H2Os.
Made two smaller samples, adding in some purple. Then added green Twinkling H2Os.
With the watercolor paper sample, I stamped a texture stamp with gold Encore ink over the smaller section. Used gold leafing pen to edge the pointillism pieces. Layered onto white linen card with small white piece. Added a metal seahorse. Stamped and embossed a saying in gold.
With the glossy pieces, stamped texture stamp over the larger background using gold Color Box ink. Used gold leafing pen to color edges of both pointillism pieces. Layered onto dark blue card and stamped saying with gold Color Box ink.

Another verse page

Sprayed several pages with an assortment of yellow inks and just a hint of red. Windy day, so I have a fine mist of yellow covering me. On one page, I laid down Tim Holtz Music Score Mask and sponged on dark red Distress ink with a Jumbo Dauber. Repeated over bottom half of page.
Wrote out the verse with a black sharpie and cut out a vintage image I like and adhered to the page.

Mini Memory for Tracey

Tracey is another member of DreamCreateInspire who's participating in the Mini Memories Swap. Here colors are Cream, Browns & Gold. And left the themes up to us. I started with canvas board and washed over some walnut ink and let dry. Mixed some 3D molding paste with some walnut ink to turn it from bright white to a more creamy color. Spread on the molding paste and used a paste paper tool to create a design. Waited and waited for it to dry. Then brushed on some walnut ink with small amount of gold Perfect Pearls to add a litter glimmer to the background. Used a variety of brown inks to add color and shading to the bottom and sides of the canvas.
Used a gold leafing pen to brighten up some metallic charm letters and adhered to the top of the canvas. Found a lovely brown vintage image, cut out, stamped some flowers in brown Brilliance ink and also used this ink to soften the edges of the image. Adhered the image to the canvas over some wing like gold colored metal charms. Used antique linen Distress ink to color 3 white paper flowers, attached them to the canvas with gold metal flowers and white flower brads.
I really like the texture of the canvas, so am glad it shows through between the raised areas of the molding paste. Hope Tracey likes my creation for her.

Ribbon & Fibers laced ATC holder booklet

I made this ATC holder booklet for the ccwaps Ribbons & Fibers swap.
Started with a sheet of paper that had been at the bottom of my spray box, with lots of blue and silver mist all over it. Rubbed brown Distress ink over the surface and heat set. Ran paper through Cuttlebug number embossing folder, colored raised areas with dark brown StazOn ink, re ran through the Cuttlebug using the diamond embossing folder, colored raised areas with Bronze Encore ink. Used this paper to be the outside covers over thick cardboard. Stamped the "D" image onto bronze metallic paper, covered with detail gold embossing powder and heat set. Cut out center of the "D" and added a vintage image. Lightly colored the outside edges of the paper with black ink and adhered to front cover. Punched holes with the Zutter Bind-it-All. Instead of coils, bound the book with an assortment of fibers and these gorgeous polymer clay beads made by Linda Strawn (I received them in a bead swap). Careful not to tie the ribbons loosely, so the pages will turn easily.
When I was done spraying my green pages yesterday, I used a large sheet of white paper to pick up the extra spray on the plastic tablecloth (used to protect my table outside). Cut off some of that paper to use on the inside covers. Stamped an image along the top and bottom with bronze Encore ink, and then stamped the same image in the center with dark brown StazOn ink. Ran dark brown StazOn ink around the outside edges of the paper and then adhered to the cardboard covers.
The pages of the book are hard plastic name tag holders .

Another page for Bible verse/hymn book

Have fun today spraying several pages for my book. Used a combination of watered down ColorWash sprays in greens and yellows, some gold perfect pearls and some yellow and green Memory Mists (pigment based ink sprays). Waited for them to dry.
Found this darling vintage image of the girl with a lamb and knew I wanted to do the 23rd Psalm. I have several verses on clear sticker sheets. This one was quite large, so choose to do a center page so I could cover two pages. Stamped on some "grass" along the bottom edge and branches along the sides and top edges with an assortment of yellow and green Distress inks and let them dry. Cut out the sticker verse to apply and added these two vintage images.

Mini Memory for Carol

Worked on another mini memory for the DreamCreateInspire Group. Carol choose the theme of bird houses/birds and the colors White, mint green and light mauve (or light pink). Started with a canvas board and colored with mint green Fabrico ink and heat set.
Placed part of a Tim Holtz mask over the surface and thickly sponged on pearl white Lumiere paint. As it dried, heated with heat tool to get some bubbling texture where the paint was thickest along the edges.
Stamped on some swirls with the same mint green Fabrico ink and let dry.
To lighten the green a bit, watered down some pearl acrylic paint and brushed over the surface, let dry.
Very faintly colored the raised edges of the Lumiere painted areas with pink Fabrico ink.
Changed the coloring of some vintage images, printed them out, cut and adhered to the canvas along with some white lace, paper flowers with mini rhinestone in center, some white beads cut in half and a white metal brad to the girls hair.

Stars

The theme on Mixed Media Monday for this week is stars. As I was thinking about stars, I remembered I wanted to make myself a book filled with Bible verses and favorite hymns and had already purchased a book kit a while ago. Decided this would get me started. Picked one of the purple pages I sprayed earlier today. Stamped swirls on with light and dark purple Distress inks. Stamped two different star stamps with gold Encore ink. Used Divine Gold embossing powder on the stars around the edges and heat set.
Cut out and adhered a vintage image and wrote out an appropriate Bible verse.
Glad to have started on my book.

Buttonhole Book Project

Almost two years ago, I bought a Buttonhole Book Kit from Albie Smith at Vendor Night at Art & Soul in Portland, Oregon. The kit came with all the parts to make a book with beautiful paste paper for the covers by Albie. I wanted to play with decorating the papers and having a book filled with Bible verses and favorite hymns. During a big clean up, I put the kit away and forgot all about it. I was inspired by the theme at Mixed Media Monday to get started on this (more in the next post). First getting colors on the papers. I started with just three of the sheets and randomly sprayed left overs of home made color sprays front and back. Some have perfect pearls in them, most do not. As I make up more sprays, I "think" I'll start off the rest of the pages this way. Don't think I'll post all the spraying. I need to be careful not to get too heavy handed as it is only text weight paper and I don't want to tear it. Here's the sample of what was made today.

Sept. Quote of the Month

I am getting ahead start on some of my upcoming projects. The quote of the month for September on ccswaps is "I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free" by Michelangelo. I started with this torso made from a mold by Chris and sent to me as part of the Favorite Bellie swap we had on DreamCreateInspire group. I'm not sure what it's made out of, but it's very light weight (Thankfully, Chris left a comment saying "she's made from Delight Paperclay in a KraftyLady mold'').
I painted over the torso with pearl white Lumiere paint and rubbed on a sparse amount of mica powder.
Created wings by inking up wing rubber stamps with black Brilliance ink, laying down two sheets of Textiva Fusible Film, then some tissue paper and heating with a small iron to fuse the film together. Cut out around the stamped wing images.
Decided to make another sketch book, this one with a niche in the front cover to place my "angel" torso in. Couldn't find where I placed a pad of printable canvas, so decided to try regular canvas sheets in my ink jet printer and it worked well, after trimming the sheets to 8-1/2" x 11". I choose a photo I took of Winged Victory at the Louvre 2 years ago (I know it was not carved by Michelangelo), played around with color added the quote to the image and printed it out on to the canvas sheet. Without changing the photo, just the placement of the quote, I tried printing, while telling the printer what type of "paper" I was choosing (canvas paper was not an option). Wish I could remember the setting for the left one, as that is my favorite of the two. The one on the right was done with selecting brochure paper.
Wanting to use the Zutter Bind-it-All for the binding, and knowing it doesn't allow very thick covers in the hole punching part, I started with two thinnish sheets of core board. Cut into 6" squares and punched each one separately. Cut out the niche in both pieces, then adhered them together to make a thicker front cover.
For the back of the niche, colored glossy card stock with blue alcohol inks, run it through a swirl Cuttlebug embossing folder and colored the raised areas with silver metallic mixture. Glued to the back of the niche.
Used on of the printed canvas to be the front cover. Adhered the "angel" torso inside the niche. Added an angel charm to the top left corner and three gold brads near Michelangelo's name. Bound book together with black 1" coils.
For the inside of the covers, I cut out 5" squares of black & silver paste paper I'd made a few years ago and colored the edges using a silver leafing pen. Stamped images and a word on two of the Water Color Wash Backgrounds (from the second set) I made a few months ago. Layered these on the paste paper and added a silver colored filigree to the top of the water color wash backgrounds.

Used the other printed canvas over thick cardboard to be the outside of the back cover.
