Chrissy's Deco - Faux Batik Technique

This is the last deco for me to work in for the ArtVenturers Group. I have had lots of fun creating pages to go in the other members' books. And love the book I received in return. The only requirement for this group's decos is to have the word "art" somewhere on the page. Chrissy asked that we create with the pages facing each other. I decided to have the two pages flow well together. I love the look and versatility of the Faux Batik technique. I stamped a tree image on the left page and flourishes on the right page with Watermark ink, covered with clear embossing powder and heat set.
I then used my home made blending tool (Cut-N-Dry foam on an acrylic block) to add antique linen Distress ink to the page.
I then added shabby shutters and peeled paint Distress ink with this blending tool. Blending in the colors until I liked what I was seeing.
I wanted another layer/dimension to this piece so I over stamped the tree on the left page and stamped some flourishes on this page with Watermark ink, covered in clear embossing powder and heat set. For the right page, I did the same with the flourish stamp. After embossing and heat setting, I used my blending tool to add pine needles & peeled paint Distress inks.
There are several different ways to iron off the embossing powder. I like to lay a paper towel on a craft sheet. Place the paper embossed side down on the paper towel and iron the back of the paper until the embossing powder has melted and been absorbed in the paper towel.
I then made a small puddle of copper metallic mixative on to a craft sheet, dipped in an old toothbrush and splattered copper over the two pages.
To finish the left page, I colored the edges with a copper leafing pen. I cut out the letters to spell "art" with copper colored paper with a Cuttlebug die and adhered to the top of the tree image and adhered a copper colored dragonfly charm to the page.
To finish the right hand page, I colored both the edge of the page and a quote I received from Sweetpea with the copper leafing pen. I adhered the quote to the center of the page and added some copper colored leaf charms.

  3. The Tree stamp is by Penny Black (3880K fantasy) I purchased at a stamp store in Seattle, but I think a lot of on line vendors might carry it also.

I already liked the first time you blended the distress inks, but then you overstamp and blend again... what a beautiful result !!
