Book Study: Extra Thick Embossing

On NGS group we are studying Julia Andrus' fabulous book "Paper Transformed". This weekend I played with the Extra-Thick Embossing technique. By using gold Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE) I could create metal looking embellishments out of paper. I wanted to make a very thick embellishment, so I started with mat board. This technique can easily be done on pre cut paper shapes, or card stock cut into squares, rectangles or circles. I'm working on large embellishments for ATCs and want the shape to be similar to the stamp I'll be using. So I stamped the moon on the mat board and cut it out a bit larger than the stamp. Next covered the top of the mat board with clear embossing ink, then covered with the gold UTEE.
Melted the UTEE with a heat tool. while the UTEE was melted, added two more layers by sprinkling on more UTEE..Inked the stamp I was going to use with the clear embossing ink. While the UTEE was hot, pressed the inked stamp into the UTEE and waited to remove the stamp after the UTEE had cooled.

Pretty cool! Looks like a metal piece.

In her book, Julia mentioned rubbing the piece with ink or perfect pearls to bring out the highlights. I used green Perfect Pearls.

Warning: Melted UTEE is very hot, pay attention to what you are doing, and don't come in contact with the hot UTEE : (
